RIP Dale Earnhardt

Published February 19, 2011 by Charlotte

Today was the 10 year Anniversary of Dale’s death. I still remember where I was when I found out. At the casinos. A lady at the slot machines was really crying. I asked after her and she responded that Dale Sr. had just died at Daytona. I was stunned. As a Nascar fan you know that wrecks are just part of racing. You never think it’ll end in someone’s death.

Tonight we were watching the show “The Day” remembering Dale Earnhardt (I believe). I swear I was so close to tears. I couldn’t finish watching it. And I wasn’t even a fan of his. I do wonder if it is part of what has made Dale Jr such an asshole. I mean he basically watched his Dad die. And then the company his Dad built from the ground up; and you know he meant for him to have, was taken away from him. Yeah… Totally makes Jr’s actions a little more understandable.

This weekend begins the 2011 season of Nascar. I’ve been a fan for as long as I can remember. It’s alot more than “rednecks going in circles.” They’ve changed a lot of things including the point system. Should make for a good year.
